PRESS RELEASE – Rodney Nanney, Republican candidate for the Michigan House of Representatives from Ypsilanti, has been endorsed by the Independence Caucus, a leading nationally recognized organization comprised of constitutionally conservative American citizens.
iCaucus.org
The mission of the Independence Caucus is to find and elect fiscally sound candidates, using an extensive vetting process to evaluate the candidate’s moral character and understanding of constitutional government and federalism, monetary systems, and fiscally conservative budgetary policies.

“I’m honored to receive the support of the Independence Caucus,” Mr. Nanney said in a prepared statement. “The iCaucus endorsement is a welcome confirmation of my commitment to bring limited government principles and fiscal sanity to Lansing.”

“As 54th District State Representative, I will work to represent all of the people of eastern Washtenaw County, not just the politically favored few,” Mr. Nanney said. “I will take my professional experience with local government and small business to Lansing to begin working to restore jobs and prosperity to Michigan.”

Rodney Nanney joins a small group of only a dozen constitutionally conservative Michigan House candidates in receiving this exclusive Independence Caucus endorsement.

ICaucus is a national grassroots organization that serves to educate voters and support constitutionally conservative candidates across the U.S. For more information about the iCaucus mission and other endorsed candidates, visit http://www.icaucus.org.

I missed this one earlier – our campaign also received coverage in the South Lyon paper, which covers the northern portion of the 54th District.  Here are some excerpts from the article:

Rodney Nanney Files for State Representative, 54th District

Speaking about his professional work, Clawson Mayor Penny Luebs called Rodney “responsible and honorable,” while former Plymouth DDA Operations Director Sherrie Pryor said, “Rodney’s forward thinking and his attention to detail combine to make him a leader in the field.”

After jobs, education is next on Rodney’s list of concerns if elected.

“Local schools need consistent and predictable funding levels from the state’s education budget,” he said. “I support moving to a two-year state budget process to break the annual partisan gridlock and help our schools be successful.”

Noting that Michigan continues to lose population and especially college graduates to other states, Rodney said the state must rein in reckless spending and create a fair tax system to encourage business reinvestment and job growth.

“After graduating college in 1964, my father was recruited to Michigan from North Carolina by Ford Motor Co.,” Nanney said. “He came here because of the opportunity our state offered to have a career and raise a family. If our generation fails to correct the downward path Michigan is on today, his grandchildren may be among those that have to go back south to find those same opportunities!”

Thank you to all that have honorably served in our nation’s armed forces.  Thank you to all that are now doing so. Beginning with General Washington’s ragged troops and extending down to those serving today in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, it has been our military that has secured our liberty and protected our freedom.

With all of the parades coming up during this election year, I’ve been asked by some if, as a candidate for state representative, I would be walking in the Ypsilanti Memorial Day processional.  I told them no, but I will be standing to the side and applauding the veterans who do so.

If you can, come join us on Monday morning, bright and early at 9:00 a.m., to honor our military veterans and their families by lining the processional route from downtown Ypsilanti along North Huron Street to East Cross St. to River St. and finishing at Highland Cemetery.

54th District state representative candidate Rodney Nanney congratulates the firefighters’ union and Ypsilanti City Council for their success in hammering out a compromise agreement to avoid layoffs in the face of declining state revenue sharing. “Union president Ken Hobbs, Pete Murdock, Brian Robb, and the rest of City Council deserve our thanks for getting this done after more than a year of negotiation,” Nanney said in response to Tuesday’s announcement.
