Restore a Healthy Business Climate in Michigan
Share Michigan led the country into economic decline under Governor Granholm’s leadership. Today, our state’s toxic business climate and the lack of leadership in Lansing are holding us back from a return to prosperity. To restore a prosperous Michigan, we must reduce the tax burden on Michigan residents and businesses, including repeal the Michigan Business surtax. As your next state representative, I will work for the people of the 54th District to:
- Reduce the tax burden on Michigan residents and businesses, including an immediate repeal of the Michigan Business surtax.
- Streamline state permitting and licensing processes.
- Rein in overzealous state regulators.
- Reverse the forced unionization of child day care owners.
- Consolidate and clean up the patchwork jumble of state economic development laws and programs.
- Reform/privatize the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Follow up question from Rodney Nanney’s Candidate Profile on AnnArbor.com:
Should Michigan be a right to work state?
“Yes, such a dramatic change statewide would send a very effective message to the business community that Michigan is “business-friendly.” However, as a former Teamster, Rodney recognizes that such legislation is very unlikely to be approved in Michigan. As a more practical solution, he supports allowing local or county governments to adopt Right to Work Enterprise Zones to help the state to become more attractive as a location for new manufacturing, high-tech, research, engineering, and other business operations.”
